Script Scrambler 1.1
Tuesday, May 05, 2026
Script Scrambler reads in your Perl source code and renames all variables and subroutines found to random characters, as well as adding random comments throughout and removing blank lines, making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for anyone to read your source code! Script Scrambler can also make your scripts run faster because it can condense the scrambled script to a smaller size than the original!
Script Scrambler can scramble virtually any script in seconds with little or no editing. It's ideal if you want to sell your scripts but don't want to give out the original source code. The scrambled script is still a standard script, so any machine with Perl on it can still run it!
Script Scrambler runs at the command line and asks four simple questions:
- Filename
- Max. Variable Length (maximum length that the scrambled variables should be)
- Add Comments (Whether or not to add random comments to the scrambled script). This will make the scrambled script slightly larger, but much more difficult to read<
- Save variable list. Saves all variables and their converted equivalents to a file with the same filename and a .vars extension.
All scrambled scripts, including
any "required" scripts that your original code calls, are saved as the same filename but with a
.scram file extension.
Take a look at our
download.cgi script, before and after being scrambled.
You'll be amazed how different the scripts look. Would you be able to descramble them?

"I've surfed the Internet for online business tools to bring new visitors to subscriber to my marketing alert service. I stumbled upon John Saya's site and couldn't believe my good fortune. Not only did he have the solutions I needed to fully automate our Web site, but he made it so that even I could install the Web software myself ... I don't even know Perl Scripting from Pearl Jam.
And the best part is I can download John's entire library at no additional cost ... everything. It's almost too good to be true!"
